I’ve written before about how I don’t much care for the lazy photo-shopping of most modern movie poster designs, but this poster for The Expendables is one of the more striking images from recent years, I think.

Sly Stallone’s knowing 80s action hero team-up is a lot of fun (before the 2 sequels began to scrape the barrel). Its throw-back nonsense, of course, but there is enjoyment to be had in seeing various ageing icons duke it out again. The one-scene team-up of the biggest names (Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis) is a particular highlight.

A number of other posters for this movie did feature the predictable line-up of stars, but I like this relatively understated French grand pre-release version.
