One Million Years BC is one of the better-loved non-horror movies that Hammer Films produced in the 60s, and with good reason.
It has two main selling points: Ray Harryhausen’s fabulous stop-motion dinosaurs (state-of-the-art in the days before CGI), and Raquel Welch in a fur bikini! In the light of those, who cares that the scenario of cave people existing alongside dinos makes not a jot of sense (and would make any historian or palaeontologist squirm, no doubt).
This is a French poster for the original release, which understandably features Raquel prominently. It has some paint marks at the top, which at first glance I thought were part of the design. This can be found for sale here.
I once also owned this classic poster for a Hammer double bill, but sold it years ago. This poster is relatively widely available as the studio printed up extra copies as promotional giveaways upon release (along with Dracula Has Risen From The Grave).
The movie is, a few grunts aside, essentially dialogue-free. This may be why it made for a really good comic strip in the 80s “House of Hammer” magazine. The artist, I think, did a great job of capturing the dynamic action sequences from the movie.
