Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo has been ranked in recent polls of film critics as the greatest movie of all time. I have to respectfully disagree with that. Its not even my favourite Hitchcock film – not by a long shot!
I must admit I find it very slow and boring, which is one of the reasons I have not fallen over myself to try own posters for this movie. (The US one-sheet, with an iconic design by the great Saul Bass, is one of the most famous and sought-after movie posters of all time, and priced accordingly).
I have however somehow fallen into having this magazine in my collection. (I certainly don’t remember buying it). For the grand sum of 4d, back in 1958 you could pick up a copy of Picture Show, “the paper for people who go to the pictures”. (Try saying that fast…). This issue, featuring James Stewart and a moody looking Kim Novak on the cover is now for sale again, for only slightly more. See link here to buy.
