This is a French version of the poster, with great artwork by the prolific American artist Bob Peak.

I must admit, I’ve never seen the Americanised movie version, starring Steve Martin. Pennies From Heaven started life as a BBC series, written by the provocative British playwright Dennis Potter, and was an early lead role that helped put Bob Hoskins on the map. He played a 1930s travelling salesman, who ends up getting executed for murder.

The ‘gimmick’ was that the various cast members would regularly burst into (mimed) song and dance to a variety of cheery 30s musical numbers – a deliberately jarring technique. It was a great, innovative series, and from what I’ve read ended up being watered down somewhat in the movie version, which flopped.

Bob Peak has a very distinctive illustration style and was responsible for a ton of famous movie posters, including Apocalypse Now, Enter The Dragon and The Spy Who Loved Me (all of which I have or have sold in one format or another), amongst many others. This one is for sale here.
