I remember I saw this loony concept monster movie from schlock producer Larry Cohen (Its Alive and others) in the lecture theatre at university. It was a lot of fun, I recall.

The plot sees an ancient giant flying lizard god make a nest at the top of the Chrysler building’s art-deco spire. From there it ventures out to feed, biting off a few civilian heads along the way. Given this very preposterous conceit, it is probably for the best that the movie does not take itself too seriously.

The monster is realised with some enjoyably wonky retro stop-motion effects. I seem to remember its very first appearance – a split second glimpse flying across the sky – is a great shock moment. There is also a serial killer sub-plot, although quite why I’m not sure. I honestly don’t remember a thing about the movie other than that, however, although apparently David Carradine and Richard Roundtree are both in it.

This ‘petit’ French poster rather nicely captures the full, ridiculous concept of the movie. You can find this for sale here.
