The first time I saw this movie at the cinema I found it really boring, largely because I had no idea what was going on! I was a little young and being British had not really followed the details of the Watergate scandal. I think maybe I was expecting more of an action thriller, and instead got lots of talking in newsrooms about people I had never heard of.

On a second viewing years later, with the benefit of age and a little more knowledge, I found it really gripping. Yes, it is very talky but director Alan J Pakula (who made a number of ‘paranoia’ thrillers in the 70s, including Klute and The Parallax View) shows a sure hand, and stars Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford make a great pairing as the Washington Post journalists who helped bring down the Nixon presidency.

The poster design understandably focuses on the two stars, although one cannot help thinking there was a great opportunity missed here to come up with something a little more interesting! This is the Belgian version, which rather unusually for Belgian posters is only in French (typically the title is also shown in Dutch too).  This poster is for sale here.

PS. No doubt there will be similar movies to come in future regarding the end of the Trump presidency too!
