Here are a striking pair of French posters for this classic – and very British – war movie.

Battle Of Britain was released in 1969 and depicts the RAF’s ultimately successful air war against the Luftwaffe at the height of WW2. The amazing cast represents a who’s who of British actors from the period.  Renowned James Bond producer Harry Salzman also spent a small fortune assembling a squadron of vintage aircraft to film the spectacular aerial sequences.

It’s all would-be stirring stuff, which ends with Winston Churchill’s famous words: “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”  Although, strangely, the scene I remember most vividly is the sadness of Michael’s Caine’s faithful dog when his master fails to return from a bombing raid….

These are ‘grande’ and ‘moyenne’ size French posters respectively.  The images are very powerful in both, to the extent I cannot decide which one I prefer – the classic image with the British and German flags entwined or the German bombers looming over London at night.

Oddly, the film was retitled “The Battle of England” for its French release – which given recent the Brexit fall-out in the UK may end up being eerily prescient! Whether you are a Brexiter or not, both these posters are available to buy here.
