Here are two very old rare posters for relatively obscure Westerns that I own.

These are Spanish posters from 1948 and 1954 respectively for the movies Whispering Smith and The Americano.

I think I bought these together from the same vendor, and not sure why as I do not know either of these movies and I am not a huge collector of Western movie posters (Clint Eastwood excepted). That said, they are both excellent designs that, as with many of the best vintage illustrated posters, instantly convey a strong sense of both the genre and the era when the movies were made.

The Whispering Smith poster, starring Alan Ladd, I got framed for reasons that escape me but the glass got broken in a house move and I somehow never got around to having it fixed. The Americano poster, featuring Glenn Ford, is on crumbly paper, which rather adds to the vintage effect, I think.

These are very nice old posters, which would grace any Western fan’s walls, but this is one of those rare instances where I would happily sell both! So I will be consigning these for auction shortly. I think the lesson is, unless you are buying specifically with the intention of flipping, only buy posters that you like for movies that you also like or at least have seen  – otherwise I don’t feel that sense of personal connection that I do with many of the other posters in my collection.
