This double bill poster is for two of the more memorable latter-day Hammer horrors.

Twins of Evil had Peter Cushing and twin lesbian vampire sisters to recommend it, but skimming through it again recently on You Tube it all looks rather cheap and style-free. I’ve not seen Hands of the Ripper in years but I think its the better film. It had a neat plot about Jack the RIpper’s daughter (spoiler: she does not settle down with two kids and live happily ever after) and was relatively gory for its time. I think I might try and find it online and watch again, to check if it is as good as I recall.

I had this on my wall for a while when I was a teenager but this not a poster I think I will ever display again. (Lets be honest – it doesn’t exactly send out a nice message for any visitors, does it). I thought I had sold it years ago as part of a batch I put up for auction, but I was pleasantly surprised to find I still had it folded in a drawer, where it will now most likely stay gathering dust! This double-bill poster is from the original release. Curiously, there were also separate quad posters for each film produced, but I prefer this one.

The Twins of Evil poster is also the original cover of the book The House of Horror, which was the first book I found about Hammer films. I remember as a kid asking my parents to buy it for me. My mother took one look, saw that it had many titillating pictures of Hammer heroines in various states of undress, and declared it unsuitable for a young teenager. Not to be deterred, I very sneakily took my grandmother (bless her) shopping subsequently and got her to buy it for me as a Christmas present!

The movie also subsequently made for a memorable comic strip in the House of Hammer magazine. Above is the opening panel.

I also recently picked up a set of 11 Spanish lobby cards for Twins. These include some great images from the movie, such as the one above. These are available for sale here.
