I recall Psycho II being a better movie than it had any right to be.
Whilst the idea of making a sequel to arguably Hitchcock’s most famous movie might seem like sacrilege, Psycho II was more than the abject cash-in that might have been expected.
I remember the shift from black and white to colour in the opening sequence being cleverly handled, and it was also a smart idea to bring back Vera Miles as Marion Crane’s sister, railing against the state’s decision to release Norman Bates after 22 years. Plus of course Anthony Perkins is once again excellent as poor Norman.
The movie also doesn’t shy away from dark humour, as Norman once again descends into madness due to a resurgence of mommy-issues. There were a further two sequels after this, neither of which I’ve seen and both of which I’m sure were unnecessary, but if the series had ended here that would have been just fine with me.
This French grande poster nicely frames the iconic image of Norman and the Bates house. It is for sale here.
