These are my original vinyl copies of some of the most memorable and distinctive soundtracks ever, created by Italian maestro Ennio Morricone, who sadly passed away at the age of 91 recently.
Morricone composed all the music for this Sergio Leone ‘spaghetti western’ trilogy and many more classic movies. Even if you have never seen the films, you will almost certainly have heard snippets from these, especially the theme titled “The ecstasy of gold” from the finale to The Good The Bad and the Ugly. (Metallica have even used it as their concert intro music for years!)
I remember this playing at one of the more unusual movie events I ever went to, years ago in Australia. I visited an outdoor cinema in a park by Sydney harbour. I am not sure which film was showing, although my faulty memory tells me it might have been Grosse Point Blank (great film, incidentally). What I do remember is that we got there and sat in a natural amphitheatre overlooking the water…except bizarrely there was no screen in front of us! I kept asking my Australian friend “Where’s the screen?”, to which she just replied “Be patient…” Then, as darkness began to fall, a lengthy overture of famous movie music began. Eventually, after The Good The Bad and the Ugly, The Pink Panther, the Star Wars theme and many more, the der-dum, der-dum thud of the theme from Jaws began…at which point the screen slowly rose up from beneath the water, to great applause. (I think it is safe to say, you don’t get that in your living room….)
I once owned the UK quad posters for both A Fistful of Dollars and A Few Dollars More, but sold them at auction. Here is a photo of ‘my’ poster from the sales catalogue, my only memento of these films now other than this pair of soundtrack albums.
