Australian director George Miller successfully redefined automative action sequences with his first two Mad Max movies.
The first Mad Max (1979) is an origin story, told on a small budget, and helped make a star of a young Mel Gibson. It has its moments, but is rough around the edges.
The sequel, with a much bigger budget, is by far the best of the original trilogy and one of the best action movies ever made. Max is the gruff ex-cop wandering a post-apocalyptic wasteland in search of fuel and safety, whilst being pursued by a band of crazies in nitrogen-powered vehicles.
These are a pair of French poster designs for the two movies. I would like to have the original French grande for Mad Max but it is quite rare. (The movie was withdrawn and re-released a few years later with a similar poster, only with a black banner across the top). The press sheet featured here has exactly the same design.
The poster for Mad Max 2 doesn’t live up to this, or the movie IMHO, but is striking nonetheless.
Both of these are available to buy here.
