Hammer’s first gothic horror remains a true classic.
Peter Cushing stars in his most memorable role as the Baron, with a pre-Dracula Christopher Lee as the monster.
Director Terence Fisher set the tone for many future Hammer horrors with this feature. Compared to the Universal monsters series, the focus is on the creator rather than his creation. (Subsequent sequels saw Cushing create new experiments, invariably with the same tragic results).
Original 1957 publicity materials for The Curse Of Frankenstein are very hard to find, and many of them (including the rather boring US one-sheet) are not so attractive. So I was very happy to come across these colourful Mexican lobby cards. One is now framed and up on my wall. The other is for sale here.
I also have in my (very) small collection of Hammer horror Spanish heralds, this one – another nice image of Christopher Lee as the monster.
