I don’t remember if I’ve ever seen this 1950 gangster/noir, but I like this image of tough guy star James Cagney, seen here on the Belgian poster.
The movie had the distinction of being banned in Ohio for “a sordid, sadistic presentation of brutality and an extreme presentation of crime with explicit steps in commission. (!)
Cagney plays another mad dog style killer, much as he had done in the previous year’s rather similar White Heat. Most contemporary reviews ended up comparing it unfavourably to the earlier movie.
I’ve been meaning for ages to try put together a mini-gallery of noir and neo-noir movies as I have a few items from this genre, but I’ve never got around to it, and have now pretty much run out of wall space, so I much as I like this poster I may end up putting it up for sale in due course.
