I know I’ve seen a bunch of the original run of Toho Godzilla movies on afternoon TV many, many years ago, but they all rather blur into one. So I’m not sure if I’ve seen 1968 monster mash-up Destroy All Monsters or not.
The plot, such as it is, involves Godzilla and ‘friends’ living in peace in ‘Monsterland’ in Japan until aliens mind-control them (yes, really) to attack earth’s major cities. This is essentially an excuse for the usual scenes of city-levelling destruction and ‘kaiju’ battles.
It was the ninth film in the Godzilla franchise, and includes a whopping eleven monster characters, such as Mothra and Rodan alongside Godzilla himself (although notably not King Kong, who curiously appears in this poster design).
Reviews were not kind at the time, but Destroy All Monsters has since become a cult favourite amongst Godzilla fans.
This is the rather fun Belgian poster, which I have for sale here.
