“All in all you’re just another brick in the wall…” If you grew up in the 80s The Wall was inescapable.
First there was the 1979 double album and hit single, mostly conceptualised by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, then a tour featuring animatronics designed by artist Gerald Scarfe, who also produced the album artwork.
The task of transforming it into a movie went to director Alan Parker. He cast the Boomtown Rats singer Bob Geldof (pre-Live Aid) in his film debut as alienated rock star Pink. Parker, Waters and Scarfe had many creative differences during production. The finished product is certainly a bizarre and unique movie, but it holds up well, assuming you buy into the concept and Floyd’s music of course.
This iconic illustration by Scarfe adorns most versions of the poster. This is the super-imposing French grande version and is for sale here.
