I must admit I fell asleep in the cinema during Mishima, which is probably rather unfair on Paul Schrader’s movie.

Maybe it was a long day, maybe I wasn’t in the mood for subtitles, but I did find it rather dull at the time (hence the snooze).

Mishima is the bizarre true story of a renowned right-wing Japanese novelist, who attempts a coup and the restoration of the emperor with the help of a private army. This is interspersed with dramatisations of scenes from his novels.

When his plans inevitably fail spectacularly he (spoiler alert) commits seppuku. (I do remember being awake for that bit).

This is the French grande poster which I sold awhile ago.
