Here is another great little Belgian poster addition to my Alfred Hitchcock gallery.
Psycho is of course one of The Master’s most famous movies, and for good reason. Knowing the plot now, its hard to imagine how audiences would have reacted back in 1960 seeing it for the first time. In the days before internet and social media, Hitchcock was able to keep the movie’s twist concealed, so there must have been an audible gasp in the cinema when star Janet Leigh is brutally murdered a third of the way into the movie!
Psycho has since influenced everything from Dressed To Kill to Pulp Fiction, and countless horror movies. Gus Van Sant even attempted a shot by shot remake (why???). But it has never been bettered, not least by Hitchcock himself in his final years.
The Belgian poster is going up on my wall. Above is also an Italian locandina from the 70s, which I sold last year.
