When you need cheering up, you can’t go wrong with a little Audrey in your life!
Here is Ms Hepburn resplendent on this undated Japanese chirashi for the 1953 classic Roman Holiday, the movie that did for Vespas what James Bond did for Aston Martin.
This was Hepburn’s first major movie role, and it won her a Best Actress Oscar. She plays an independent princess, looking to see Rome on her own, with the help of reporter Gregory Peck.
The movie was mostly shot on locations in and around Rome, following negotiations with the Italian Tourism Ministry, who initially refused on the grounds that it would “degrade Italians” (!) It is now considered a timeless classic, with great chemistry between its two leads.
Original first-release posters for Roman Holiday are both very collectible and hugely expensive, regardless of the country they originate from. This chirashi is almost certainly from a much later re-release, but my wife is a huge Audrey fan, and she is happy to have it in her collection.
