A Fistful Of Dynamite tends to be the forgotten Sergio Leone spaghetti western, compared to the Dollars trilogy and Once Upon A Time In The West…which is a pity, as its a lot of fun, with great chemistry between stars James Coburn and Rod Steiger.
The movie was made at a time when the ideals of revolution were becoming popular amongst certain circles in Europe, and is set during the Mexican revolution of the 1910s. Against this backdrop, the plot details the unlikely friendship between Steiger’s Mexican outlaw and Coburn’s Irish Republican explosives expert.
Having been originally released in the US to little fanfare under the title Duck You Sucker, the movie was retitled in the US to try capitalise on the previous success of Leone’s Dollars spaghetti Westerns, and that was the title used for the UK release. It was the last Western movie directed by Leone.
