This is a movie that I have never seen, although I have listened to the soundtrack album many times.
Rust Never Sleeps was a concert film made in 1979 as a showcase for Neil Young and Crazy Horse. I saw Neil Young once years ago (on the “Trans” tour, super-fans) and frankly I found it quite a boring concert – lots of endless guitar noodling, and too many songs from Trans, which remains one of the most divisive albums he ever made. (He has produced so many albums over the years of wildly varying style and quality, this one was heavily synthezier-influenced).
My good friend Robert from my school-days was always a huge Neil Young fan. He was the one who took me to see him in concert. He would have loved his poster I think and were he still around I would offer it him as a gift. Tragically, he passed away suddenly in 2019 just a day after seeing Neil in concert for one last time. Looking at this poster could not but help bring back sad memories of him for me, so I decided to sell it.
I did want it to go to a true Neil Young fan, however, so I flogged it via a fan group on Facebook. A lady in the US bought it, who proudly informed me she was his #1 super-fan (who had in fact changed her last name legally to Young!) I sincerely hope she enjoys it on her wall as much as Robert would have.
