Here are a couple of original posters for two of the lesser Roger Moore Bonds.

Moonraker IMHO is a low point in the franchise – honestly, what the hell is James Bond doing in space? It seemed then and still does a rather pathetic attempt to cash in on the success of contemporary sci-fi movies like Star Wars. It also brought back baddie henchman Jaws from The Spy Who Loved Me, only this time turned him into a quasi-hero of sorts, and even gave him a girlfriend. Plus the film contains possibly Roger’s worst double-entendre as Bond – “I think he’s attempting re-entry, sir”  (go figure).

The poster rather plays up the ridiculousness of the whole thing, but it does feature nice illustration (by Dan Goozee, who served as the artist for several of the Moore-era Bond posters).

A View To A Kill was a marginally better movie – at least it had a decent theme tune, courtesy of Duran Duran, and Christopher Walken is always good value as a baddie.  But then it also had a geriatric Roger bedding Grace Jones, so it was a small mercy that he hung up his Walther PPK after this one.

It used to be that one could pick up these latter-day Bond posters for a song, but now I have seen Moonraker quads like this one sell for over £500 – crazy money! Both of these have now sold, but for a rather more reasonable price I have the Spanish versions of both poster designs available to buy here.

Years later, I was having lunch in a very fancy French restaurant in the hills above Nice (original Picassos on the walls kind of fancy) and Sir Roger Moore was at the next table with friends.   It was one of the very few occasions in my life when I was strongly tempted to go over and ask for a selfie, but I resisted, although by all accounts he was always a thoroughly nice chap when confronted by star-struck fans.
