Here’s an original UK quad and a US re-release poster for this Steven Spielberg classic. I still have these, but neither are in the greatest condition, unfortunately.
The UK quad is in the condition I bought it in – some tears and missing paper at the edges, which would be repairable if I were to get the poster linen-backed. It was one of 2 quite different UK quads for the original release, the other one of which featured the classic newspaper quote “thrill a minute stuff…” which, for once, was actually true of the film itself.
The US one-sheet damage is entirely self-inflicted however – when I was young I put it up on the wall with blu-tack, which I have since learned to my cost is the sworn enemy of all posters! Over time, the oils in the blu-tack stick to the paper and when the blu tack is removed you are left with an ugly grey semi-translucent mark. If the poster has a black background the damage is not so noticeable but on a white background it stands out like a sore thumb. I have yet to discover any easy method to repair this, short of spray painting over the marks, which I suspect may only make it worse. So if anyone has any suggestions to cure this, I would love to hear from you…! It is a pity as I particularly like this poster, even though its for a re-release – the illustration has a very cool retro feel about it which perfectly fits the film itself.
More recently, I picked up the above French ‘grande’, which is in good condition! For good measure, here’s a French press sheet, with the classic image uniquely rendered in gold. Both of these have also sold.
I do still currently have a cool set of Spanish lobby cards with various images of Indy, one of which is below. These are currently for sale here.
